Community Guidelines

Last updated: March 2026

Fictionry exists to be the best home for human-written fiction on the internet. These guidelines help us maintain a platform where writers and readers can thrive together. Violating these guidelines may result in content removal, account warnings, suspension, or termination.

1. Be Human-First

Fictionry is a platform for human creativity. We believe in real writers telling real stories.

  • All published stories must be substantially human-written
  • AI-generated content (from ChatGPT, Claude, or similar tools) is not permitted as original work
  • Using AI for editing, grammar checking, or brainstorming is fine — the creative work must be yours
  • Bulk-publishing low-effort content to game discovery is not permitted

2. Be Respectful

Every person on Fictionry is here because they love stories. Treat them accordingly.

  • Be kind in comments and reviews — critique the work, not the person
  • No harassment, threats, bullying, or targeted attacks
  • No hate speech, slurs, or discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, or disability
  • Disagreements are fine; personal attacks are not
  • Do not share personal information about other users

3. Keep It Honest

Trust is the foundation of a good community. Don't undermine it.

  • Do not manipulate ratings, reviews, or engagement metrics
  • Do not create fake accounts or use multiple accounts to boost your own work
  • Do not plagiarise — only publish work you have the right to publish
  • Tag your content accurately (genre, content rating, warnings)
  • Do not impersonate other users, authors, or public figures

4. Content Standards

Fictionry supports creative freedom within clear boundaries. The following content is not permitted:

  • Content that sexualises minors in any form
  • Content that promotes or glorifies real-world violence or terrorism
  • Content designed to harass specific real people
  • Illegal content or content promoting illegal activity
  • Spam, malware, or deceptive content

Mature themes in fiction (violence, dark themes, adult content) are permitted when appropriately tagged with content ratings and warnings. Use the content rating system honestly so readers can make informed choices.

5. Fan Fiction

Fan fiction is welcome on Fictionry. Tag it correctly using the fan fiction origin type and fandom tags so readers can find it (and so it doesn't appear in original fiction feeds). Fan fiction must still comply with all other community guidelines.

Fan fiction cannot be monetized. Chapter gating is not available for fan fiction stories. This means all fan fiction chapters must remain free to read. If you write both fan fiction and original fiction, you can still monetize your original stories — the restriction only applies to fan fiction.

6. Reporting & Enforcement

If you see something that violates these guidelines:

  • Use the report button on any story, chapter, comment, or review
  • For copyright issues, use our DMCA process
  • For urgent issues, contact us at hello@fictionry.com

Our enforcement approach is proportional: first-time minor violations typically result in a warning, while severe or repeated violations may result in immediate suspension or termination. We review every report and aim to respond within 48 hours.

7. Appeals

If you believe a moderation action was taken in error, you can appeal by contacting us at hello@fictionry.com. Include your username and a description of the situation. We review all appeals and will respond within 5 business days.
